Christians are being deceived by a Tsunami of Ancient Gnosticism

There is a Tsunami of deception hitting Christian churches and it is under the guise of ancient Gnostic mysticism. The New Testament Church came under sustained attack by the proponents of Gnosticism. Gnostic “christians” promoted the worship of angels and participation in subjective spiritual experiences.

Full Definition of mysticism. 1 : the experience of mystical union or direct communion with ultimate reality reported by mystics. 2 : the belief that direct knowledge of God, spiritual truth, or ultimate reality can be attained through subjective experience (as intuition or insight).

In essence, mysticism elevates subjective spiritual experiences above the understanding or application of Biblical doctrine. Mystics claim that it is better to experience God than to know about Him. The Bible on the other hand teaches that God’s Word (the Bible), is profitable to those who study it because it instructs us in righteousness, and provides us with a correct understanding of the character of god and His moral laws.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness ..” 2 Tim 3:16

But on the other hand there is another disturbing scripture that teaches us that the Word of God does not profit everyone.

“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the Gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it” Hebrews 4:1-2 (Read more about this)

The Bible warns that every believer is to test every spirit because not all spirits are from God. But how can know when the Holy Spirit is at work as opposed to a counterfeit demonic spirit?

Holy SpiritCounterfeit demonic spirit
Always glorifies God, Jesus Christ, and the Word of GodAlways demeans God, Jesus, the church, or ministers of the gospel in some way
Never elevates an individual or an organisationOften glorifies an individual or an organisation
Is in agreement with sound biblical doctrine & loves TruthMay contain elements of truth but is always be laced with error (doctrines of demons)
Manifests the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22-23)Manifests the fruits of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21)
Focuses on spiritual principles, truth, and serious subject matterFocuses on pride, the love of money, the love of self, frivolity
God is not a clown. I have not yet found a joke in the BibleWill often manifest foolish behaviour to make a mockery of god and his word
Loves Truth and upholds every aspect of Biblical truthHates truth and subtly promotes lies, deception, and distortions of Truth
Tells people what they NEED to hearTells people what they WANT to hear

In this video you will see some disturbing examples of what happens when people focus on subjective spiritual experiences rather than on the Word of God. The Bible teaches that we are not to be drunk but rather to be sober-minded.

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

But proponents of mysticism distort this scripture by claiming that it is legitimate to be “drunk in the Spirit”. Nowhere in the Bible are we taught to embrace anything that leads to a lack of self control. One of the fruits of the spirit is SELF CONTROL (Galatians 5:22-23), therefore any “spirit” that encourages a lack of self-control cannot be God’s Holy Spirit. According to the Bible it is unwise to be drunk with wine and to lose self-control – which can lead to a loose tongue, serious accidents, fighting, sexual immorality and even premature death. So too it is unwise, unprofitable, and contrary to Scripture, to throw caution to the wind and embrace everything that calls itself “Christian”.

Today we live in age where evil is called good and good is called evil. Many  Christians secretly love the things of this world more that the things of God, Instead of being willing to live a self-sacrificing life, they place a Christian label on the false gods and idols they serve. But just as the contents of a bottle do not mysteriously change simply because we change the label, neither does something suddenly become Christian just because we or others say it is.

The ultimate test of what constitutes true Christianity is simply the fruit on display at any given time. Jesus said that we can easily identify whether a tree is good or bad by the fruit that we see on the tree. A good tree does not bear bad fruit and a bad tree does not bear good fruit. The fruit is always consistent with the characteristics and properties found in the tree.

“By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” Matthew 7:16

Watch the video and judge for yourself whether this fruit is good or bad.
